Someone Believed in Me

I’ve kept these letters for years.

They were written to me by my sponsor when I was still a child, and every time I read them, I’m reminded of just how much it meant to have someone believe in me.

At the time, I probably didn’t understand the full weight of it. I just knew that somewhere, there was someone who cared enough to write to me, encourage me and remind me that I mattered.

Looking at them now, especially as an adult, I understand it differently.

Sometimes we underestimate what it means to support someone. We think it has to be something big or life-changing. But sometimes it’s a letter. A school fee. A visit. A few encouraging words. Or simply telling someone, “I believe in you.”

You may never know what that does for someone.

These letters became part of my story. They reminded me that someone saw something in me, even when I was still too young to see it for myself.

And perhaps that is one of the biggest reasons I believe so strongly in what we are building through The Nashipae Foundation.

I know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of someone’s kindness and belief.

Now, I want to be part of creating that feeling for someone else.

Because sometimes, believing in a person is the first step to helping them believe in themselves.
